Hearing Loss Support Group
PURPOSE: The Hearing Loss Support Group is being formed to provide activities deemed helpful to the hearing impaired residents of Panorama.
STRUCTURE:
The Group shall be a self-perpetuating Group. The vision is to have up to five members. Their terms would be renewable annually, by vote of the majority of other members of the Group. Each person receives one vote. The Resident Council may appoint a liaison member with Group voting rights.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GROUP
- Address the questions and concerns of the Panorama Residents regarding hearing loss. For example, the use of Roundtable Discussions.
- Learn about hearing impaired technology. For example, the use of smartphone apps.
- Train the hearing aid users in the use of telecoil. For example, the use of telecoil in the Panorama Auditorium.
- Suggest to management, the purchase of equipment that may enhance the hearing impaired. For example, the use of looped spaces.
- Promote and support the ADA guidelines and legislation for hearing impaired. For example, the pending Washington State legislation requiring hearing aid dispensers to discuss telecoil use.
- Provide information regarding venues in the area using hearing impaired devices. For example, use of hearing devices at movie theaters.
- Distribute information on hearing impaired devices. For example, the use of landline caption phones.
- Suggest/ Find resources (speakers, materials, etc.) for the current Social Services Advisor regarding hearing loss issues, for the possible use in programs.
