Reader's Theatre
Readers Theatre has become quite popular on Panorama’s campus. Some 40+ active members collaborate on a variety of productions … from multi-act plays to poetry fests to staged reading of lyrical essays. Generally, the productions held in the intimate Quinault Auditorium, usually on the third Monday of the month over the course of the 8-month season. Some productions are held in the main auditorium or produced for PTV. We take the summer to relax, travel and ponder on what to do for next season.
Readers Theatre is traditionally known as the oral interpretation of literature and can take many forms. The use of costumes and props is limited, staging is minimal. Each production is led by a volunteer director from among the members of the group. The director selects the script from a variety of sources or, in some cases, even collects the material and/or writes a unique script. The director is also responsible for securing the performance rights. Any royalties are funded by the Resident Council.
Members also participate in Open Table, where we share our favorite literature discovery of the month. Open Table is held at 1.00 PM on the last Friday of each month, generally in the Seattle Room. Everyone is welcome to either share or just listen.
